Here Comes the Plus Size Bride! Part 2

Barbie has been getting married since 1962!

People often remark that every little girl dreams of her wedding day, especially her dress.    I can’t say that I ever remember dressing up as a bride.  Don’t get me wrong . . . I loved (still love) playing dress up, I just can’t remember dressing up as a bride or acting out a wedding.  I loved to draw wedding dresses (or any big, puffy dress for that matter!), dress up my dolls in wedding dresses, think of colour combinations, and bridesmaid dress ideas.  I hadn’t ever really thought about having all that attention on ME,  or even what kind of options I would have.

Frothy lace and sparkles, to satisfy your inner Princess! IGIGI, $375 USD.

Vintage glam will never go out of style, by Kiyonna, $351.83 CAD.

A unique, custom wedding dress on Etsy, $430 CAD.

I’ve done a lot of thinking about this over the past year, since I got engaged, and realized that I LOVE weddings,  I just wasn’t so sure how I felt about walking down the aisle with all eyes on me.  I know the shapes and fits that I like, and that work for my body.  After trying on many dresses, I realized that I knew what I did NOT like . . . crossing my fingers that I would stumble upon MY dress.  With somea lot of faith, trust, and pixie dust I DID find my dream dress and am beyond excited to show it off.

The high, fitted waist will show off your curves while the draped tulip skirt is fresh and fashion forward. Asos Curve, $ 127.93 CAD.

A shorter version of Vintage Glam by Kiyonna, $244.66 CAD.

For the Steampunk bride; “It’s sort of Victorian-industrial, but with more whimsy and fewer orphans.” - Caitlin Kittredge ASOS Curve, $100.51 CAD

I had always knew, in the back of my mind, that I did have a back of plan – so to speak. Online shopping.  I wanted to experience wedding dress shopping in person, but knew that there were some stunning dress options that were available online.  Kiyonna and IGIGI have a specific “Wedding” category on their websites, and feature some gorgeous dresses! ASOS Curves has some fashion forward dress options, while not all are available in a white or ivory, there are a few options. Lastly, Etsy offers some stunning one-of-a-kind custom wedding dresses and many vendors offer to make pieces for your specific measurements.

This 60s swing skirt dress is complete with bows and exposed zipper for a unique twist. Asos Curve, $91.38 CAD.

  • For the fashion forward, the High-Low hem has been hitting the runways and red carpets this year. (And perfect for rockin' a killer shoe!) IGIGI, $ 525 USD

    IGIGI available in sizes 12 – 30/32.

  • Kiyonna available in sizes 0X – 5X (10/12 – 30/32).
  • ASOS Curve available in UK sizes 20 – 26 (US sizes 16 – 22).
  • Etsy search for “Plus Size Wedding Dress,” for some amazing custom-made options.

Love your curves,

-Kelsey

I got my dress from Dolly Couture (http://www.dollycouture.com/). There’s so many different unique options that are flattering on all sizes. I’m normally a size 16/18 and my dress fit perfect. Fabulous dresses and even better customer service.
