The Skinny on Big Brooklyn Style

TLC has once again foraged into the world of plus-size fashionistas. With the fizzle of Big Sexy, Big Brooklyn Style seems to have hit the mark.

I just couldn’t buy into Big Sexy, the show certainly didn’t represent how I felt about fashion and seemed to focus (heavily) on the negative aspects of plus-size fashion and being plus-sized. I’m quite capable of coming up with my own negative aspects of my size and the constant struggle to find chic and cute clothing that fits my curves, I didn’t need a reality show to reinforce these concepts. What we needed (at least, I was hoping for) was a show that provided inspiration, witty commentary, great fashion, and curvy women with BIG personalities! Shopping for a plus size body can be a FUN experience, especially when you have women around you who can offer guidance, humour, and fashion tips!

My favorite aspect of Big Brooklyn Style is the feeling I get when watching the show. The experience of shopping in a fashion forward, body loving, and welcoming environment is something that we work very hard to provide at {LUCY} and I think this show has tapped into the experiential aspect of plus size fashion.  The one aspect of the show that frustrates me is the lack of clothing options. I commend Lisa Dolan of Lee Lee’s Valise for her initiative and for her design sensibility, however would find it frustrating to shop at the plus size boutique that didn’t bring in a wide selection of brands and styles. At {LUCY} we try to bring in a vast selection of plus size styles to suit each and every fashionista that walks through our doors. I like Lisa’s designs, but I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t shop my favourite brands like Kiyonna, IGIGI, Sealed with a Kiss, Donna Ricco, and Adriana Papell, and Not Your Daughter’s Jeans.

All in all, I really enjoy Big Brooklyn Style and I think it puts out a positive plus size experience.

What are your thoughts on TLC’s Big Brooklyn Style?

Love your curves,

Kelsey
